How To Go Backpacking

Preparation of list of stuff to ship:
1. How to organize your gear on the bike:
- The weight at the rear
- The lowest weight possible
- The weight as close to the axis that runs from the front wheel to rear wheel
- Hard to travel (hotel, cottages, etc.) of flexible enough saddle bags, careful to avoid hard-mounting brackets that break (thank you Remi)
- The stuff STILL in suitcases / bags / topcase secure. That way we can leave the bike unattended without stress. So in my opinion avoid the panniers and tank bags strapped “bulk”. For the duffle bag strapped to the luggage rack I use a “pack-safe”, a kind of fishing net steel which locked to avoid being bitten bag. J \ ‘ve screwed the luggage rack over the net to make it integral with the motorcycle.
2. Making his gear easy to carry no history of any gallery if you must get into a room \ ’s hotel or if we should all hang out at customs to inspect the business
- For duffle \ ’s strap behind you favor bags that have a shoulder strap to carry it on \’ s shoulder
- For those with luggage zegas inner bags sold by KTM are very convenient to use, open the bag, you leave the bag and hop on file, there is no stuff in bulk 30,000 to catch … And it prevents the rubbing against the aluminum business of the bag which blackens with any friction.
- The squeezable bags for clothes. That way the clothes are separated from the rest, protected from dust and moisture, and more by compressing it saves space.
3. Smaller more practical to avoid trouble and inconvenience
- Always close to his bags even 5km … (Eg Albania kids have sneaked behind the bike to try to empty my suitcase … a big blow gas Akras in the head of the leader was enough to deter them but hey …). Then it avoids forgetting to close a lid ZEGA to lose on the road.
- Always keep your papers on you. If you pique the bike while you visit you find something not without passports and no money or credit card in the depths of nowhere … Also remember to take photocopies of passports (to be stored in a different place!). I recommend a holster type “holster” which goes against itself with a shoulder strap.
- Take 2 credit cards (Visa and a MasterCard) and store them at 2 different places. Ditto for the money. Do not put everything in one place. If it is stolen you lose that half …
- A small lock at 10 euros for those type bikes for hanging the bike helmets history of not lugging when visiting a trick (for cross helmets do not forget to hang the mask)
- 1 anti-theft light for the bike, especially for deterrence …
- A list of numbers and addresses as embassies, consulates, pairing up insurance, etc., in the countries crossed
- Identify a maximum of campsites / hotels in advance
4. Camping gear
- Win a max weight and leaves room to put a few euros more for the small stuff …
- A duvet that can be opened completely and put on the cover, handy when it’s hot. At least one down that can be opened from the bottom, when you need a little warm spell is already a foot and you breathe better (the extremities, hands, feet, head, 90% of heat loss by the body)
- Inflatable mats, he does not need your height, a little fact the case, if there is head + torso + thigh enough, under the feet you put your motorcycle jacket to have his feet on the pebbles. Before buying out the packaging and try to bring him back into cover, sometimes it bent in the factory and impossible to put into the cover …
- Tent: a tent that provide protection from rain, but breathable. Provide for being able to sleep with all your belongings in the tent, sometimes it sucks and it is better not leave the boots out …
- No need pillows, clothes enough
- Head lamp per person, if necessary to pitch the tent at night, walking in the dark, to go pee at 3 am, etc.. Take a rechargeable battery and charger 12v mini. (Genus petzl LED)
- 1 gas stove, gas cartridges fate of Europe we find more … Avoid plastic pump stoves that are fragile
- Meals on small fork + 1 + 1 spoon. One eats in the Meals on with the fork, the other in the Meals on lid with a spoon.
- A hunting knife with quick and easy, always in the pocket, you never know … (To hide when passing customs … see my post below)
- 1 small cup for morning coffee
- A bath towel per person. Take camping towels dry fast and not too small.
5. Staying Healthy
- Vaccine Update
- Small checkup with a doctor if any doubt or recent illness
- Visit the dentist (yes, a toothache in Africa is returning home by plane and end the trip …)
